The Clash reached new heights of success with the release of the fifth Clash album, Combat Rock. Combat Rock spawned the US Top 10 hit Rock the Casbah which helped the album to achieve a double-Platinum certification. This was the album which saw The Clash achieve success all over the world.

Rock That Casbah! features the legendary broadcast from The US Festival, San Bernardino, broadcast live to air on 28 May 1983 featuring Pete Howard on drums. The US broadcast was to prove the swansong for Mick Jones. This was Jones' last concert broadcast with the group. Continuing internal friction led to increased tensions and in September 1983, Mick Jones was fired.
