Sinfӧnicca - The Heavy Metal Toccata & Fugue (CD)
IMAGINE A HEAVY ROCK BAND TAKING OVER THE LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS!
Yes, we know, every rock band says, ‘Here is the greatest music of all time.’ but...er... this really is the greatest music of all time!
Bach is often hailed as the father of heavy metal so here are three metal variations on Bach’s famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor. There are those who maintain the Toccata and Fuge represents a gathering storm and the calm after the storm. As a nod to that theory, we’ve added some musique concrète complete with thunder and rain storm.
Sinfӧnicca is the vision of keyboard player and arranger Bob Carruthers combining the power of a rock band, virtuoso soloists, chamber orchestra and the ethereal quality of Gregorian chant to transport the listener to an altogether different place.
Toccata and Fuge Metal Variation - Opus 1 The virtuoso talents of guitarist Jonny Smale are to the fore. Trevelyan Harper provides brilliant service on the drums. Rene Shades contributed some very tasty guitar and bass. Nina Heidenreich created some wonderful violin variations. The London Symphonia orchestra is conducted by James Gambold.
Toccata and Fuge Metal Variation - Opus 2 Features the stunning female lead vocal of Roz Smith with lyrics by Bob Carruthers inspired by Shakespeare and Voltaire.
Toccata and Fuge Metal Variation - Opus 3 features our very special guests Dr Voissy from Italy and virtuoso French violinist and viola player Ben Payen.
For the two intermezzos pieces from the St Mathew Passion, we proudly present Pete Ferguson on guitar with a glimpse of the avant garde music of Sonification.
Sound production on the Sinfӧnicca and Sonification albums is by Ben Darlow, long term engineer and associate of Mike Oldfield.
Palma Music Studios plays a big part in the Sinfӧnicca story, and our thanks go to Frederik Thomander and Louis Main Wheeler
