Nirvana’s legendary gig at the Estadio Vélez Sarsfield, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 30 October 1992.

Nirvana’s first and only performance in Buenos Aires, Argentina, remains one of the most infamous, controversial, and legendary concerts in the band's history. 

Calamity Jane, an all female riot band from Oregon, were the opening act, and the predominantly male stadium crowd reacted with extreme hostility forcing them off stage, throwing mud, coins, bottles, and trash at the women while shouting sexist insults.  

After reportedly threatening to boycott the show backstage, Kurt Cobain convinced his band mates to proceed and "punish" the audience instead by sabotaging their own set. They opened with a lengthy noise jam, commonly known as Nobody Knows I'm New Wave. The crowd spent the night waiting for Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana burst into the iconic opening guitar riff multiple times, sending the stadium into a frenzy, only for Cobain to abruptly stop playing and pivot into a different song. 

Nirvana buried the crowd in rare tracks, unreleased songs, and B-sides that the stadium did not know, including Beeswax and Spank Thru. Cobain did later describe the show as "one of the greatest experiences I've ever had" - a testament to the raw power of live music when artists choose authenticity over commercial obligation.
