Kraftwerk’s headline appearance at the Tribal Gathering festival, on 24 May 1997, held at the Luton Hoo Estate, Bedfordshire, UK. 

The 1997 Tribal Gathering at Luton Hoo Estate was a landmark appearance for Kraftwerk, marking the pioneering German electronic group’s first-ever festival performance and their first UK appearance since 1992. On 24 May 1997, they headlined an extraordinary electronic-music bill alongside artists including Daft Punk, Orbital, Faithless, Jeff Mills and Laurent Garnier. Kraftwerk’s 90-minute set demonstrated just how far their influence had spread into the contemporary techno and dance scene, with classics such as Numbers, Computer World, The Man-Machine, Tour de France, Autobahn, Radioactivity and Trans-Europe Express, followed by Pocket Calculator, The Robots and Musique Non Stop. The performance was particularly significant as many of the techno artists playing alongside them regarded Kraftwerk as their spiritual forefathers, making the set a powerful meeting of electronic music’s past and present.
